The Usui Reiki System of Natural Balancing

                             for People and Animals

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a natural balancing art that involves interacting with universal life force energy.  It is NOT a religion and   envelopes all cultures and religions. In fact, the Japanese word means, “Universal Spirit Energy”. "Rei" means Universal, transcendental spirit, soul. "Ki" means the life force Energy; the meaning is the same as Chi in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Prana in India.  Thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, this balancing process was rediscovered in the 1800’s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator and monk, during his quest to learn how to heal the sick by laying on of hands.

Through his research and meditation, Dr. Usui located ancient Buddhist sutras that contained references to symbols used for healing purposes.  From these symbols he developed the Usui System of Reiki, the essence of which is to increase the human body’s ability to heal its own ailments and to address the cause of disease on a deep level.

Reiki is life force energy.  It flows through a person the way electricity flows through wires.  This energy, is often described by both the Reiki practitioner and the Reiki client as a tingly or warmth sensation that produces a soothing balance.  Reiki helps an individual relieve stress, physical pain and discomforts, and can enable them to regain their strength.

A Reiki session is approximately 50-90 minutes in length.  Clients are treated fully clothed, sitting up in a chair or lying down on a massage table, whichever is more comfortable.  During the session, the Reiki practitioner will gently rest their hands on (or slightly above) various parts of the body in patterns (chakra system) which include the head, neck, abdomen, arms, legs, back and feet. If the body is touched, it is lightly.

Throughout its lengthy history, Traditional Reiki has been used to help treat virtually every known illness and/or injury.  As well, many individuals have used Reiki to help overcome unwanted habits, achieve personal goals, and alleviate stress.  Children and animals are especially responsive to this non-invasive and loving energy.  This balancing technique does not require any system of belief or thought to be activated and can be easily accessed to balance our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.

Traditional Reiki Practioners have the added benefit of being able to apply this balance to themselves as well as others. The Second Level teaching prepares the practioner how to apply this energy gift to a client at a Distant Location, person or animal.
