Frequently Asked Questions on Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a natural balancing method that uses the hands of a healer to channel energy to another person through chakras or energy centers.  It has been practiced for thousands of years. It was reintroduced in the 1800's by Mikao Usui in Japan after many years of researching the healing ministries of great healers including Jesus and the Buddha.

Reiki (literal translation - Universal Energy), as taught by Dr. Usui has a simple set of procedures to follow. They were passed down to each of the Reiki Masters who follow his teachings, together with a simple set of five Reiki ideals or precepts for daily living.

What is Meant by "Balancing"?

Balancing is the realignment of energy, sometimes called chi or prana, in the energy field of the client. It may be the spiritual, mental, emotional or physical level..the client's Highest Level knows!

It is important to note that TRADITIONAL~TIBETAN REIKI energy is not a mind power. It is spiritual in nature, and therefore cannot be directed or manipulated in any way. Reiki goes to the cause of the problem to allow balancing. Reiki works on the assumption that each of us knows more about what is necessary for our healing than anybody else.  Thus, Reiki is totally complementary to other forms of balancing and healing as well as medication being taken.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Reiki has been found to have a calming effect on the body. It can restore balance to the body. It supports the body's natural ability to heal itself.

Reiki practitioners are not using "their personal energy" per se, but tap into Divine Universal Energy and therefore cannot become depleted or run down. Nor do we take on the "energy or imbalance" of another, human or animal. The mind~emotions of the practitioner should remain neutral.

The  Divine Energy enters at the crown chakra of the Reiki practitioner and passes through their arms and hands into the Highest Level of the client receiving the Reiki. The energy then flows down to the mental level, emotional level and finally the physical level, in Divine Time and Divine Order. During this process the whole being balances itself using their own innate knowledge.

Can Reiki cure disease?

Reiki is not intended to be a cure. It does however improve the body's natural ability to balance itself.  It should be reinforced that Reiki is not intended to replace your physician or other health care providers. Reiki providers DO NOT DIAGNOSE OR PRESCRIBE MEDICINE.

Who can receive Reiki energy?

Reiki can be given to all people, as well as animals and plants.  It is not associated with an organized religion, therefore, it is open to all.

Reiki is benefitial at any age!  Animals take Reiki very easily.  Plants love Reiki...you can even give Reiki to seeds before planting.

How often can I receive Reiki?

Your body only absorbs the healing energy it needs.  Therefore, you cannot receive too much Reiki energy.  There is no limit to the number of Reiki sessions you may have.  A customized plan can be discussed after the initial session if you wish.

Who is qualified to perform Reiki?

Traditional Reiki practitioners are trained under the direction of a
Traditional Reiki Master.  Traditional Reiki Practitioners like myself practice using the same training initiated by Mikao Usui himself.  This type (spiritual based) Reiki is often called Usui Reiki. There are however, other styles of Reiki (Western style, physical and emotionally based) is one.

Anyone who has a Level I, II, or III Reiki degree may give Reiki in-person; Level II and III individuals may also send Reiki remotely (distant healing).  Only Reiki Masters may give attunements to others to allow them the capability to give Reiki.
